Former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton exchanged sharp remarks with the Czech Republic’s deputy prime minister Petr Macinka during a panel discussion at the Munich Security Conference in Germany on Saturday. Macinka criticized what he called “woke” politics, including gender identity debates and climate activism, while Clinton challenged his comments, prompting a pointed exchange. Macinka said, “we saw the woke revolution. I don’t agree with the gender revolution, the climate alarmism,” to which Clinton responded, “Which gender? Women having their rights?”In response to Macinka’s statement that there were two genders and that other identities were a “social construct that had gone too far,” Clinton asked, “How about half of us? Can we have our rights?”Clinton argued that debates over gender did not justify withdrawing support for Ukraine, where people were fighting on the front lines.“But does that justify selling out the people of Ukraine, who are on the front lines, dying to save their freedom — and their two genders if that’s what you’re worried about,” she said. The deputy minister prime told Clinton she seemed nervous about his comments and said, “can I finish my point? I’m sorry it makes you nervous.”Speaking about US President Donald Trump, Macinka said Clinton did not appear to like him.“I think you really don’t like him,” Macinka said.“You know, that is absolutely true,” Clinton responded. “But not only do I not like him, but I don’t like what he’s actually doing to the United States and the world, and I think you should take a hard look at it if you think there is something good that will come of it.”Macinka described Trump’s actions in the US as a reaction to policies he said had strayed too far from ordinary people, prompting Clinton to ask for examples.The exchange took place during the panel where Clinton addressed US immigration, saying the system had “gone too far.” She added that it had been “disruptive and destabilizing”, and called for reforms that are humane, with secure borders, protection of human life, and support for strong family structures.Clinton acknowledged the use of barriers in certain locations but opposed expanding the border wall on a large scale during her 2016 campaign.At the time, Clinton supported then-President Barack Obama’s executive actions that deferred immigration enforcement for millions of undocumented children and parents and sought to end family detention.She also intended to continue the policy of deporting “violent criminals” while scaling back immigration raids, which she said caused “unnecessary fear and disruption in communities,” as reported by Fox News previously.
