Multan Sultans owner Ali Tareen (Screengrabs)

Multan Sultans owner Ali Khan Tareen has responded to a legal notice from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) with defiance. The PCB has accused him of violating several clauses in their 10-year contract. The PSL team ownership rights will expire in December, marking the end of the tournament’s first decade. Current owners must participate in a re-bidding process to maintain their ownership.Multan Sultans have revealed that the PCB threatened to blacklist their owner unless he apologizes publicly for criticizing PSL management. Ali Khan Tareen has been vocal in his criticism of PSL management over the past year, particularly regarding communication issues and transparency concerns.“The PCB last month sent a legal notice to Multan Sultans, demanding that our owner Ali Tareen retracts all recent critical statements and issues a public apology to the PSL management. The notice threatens termination of our franchise agreement and a lifetime blacklist of Mr. Tareen from owning any cricket team in the future,” Multan Sultans said in a statement.“For the PCB management to treat constructive criticism as a crime is outrageous. It demonstrates the pettiness of the current management and clearly shows that the PSL is not open to questions or accountability, even from those who have given the most to make it stronger. Silencing honest feedback is not how great leagues are built. His commitment to Pakistani cricket is unwavering, and his only goal is to help the PSL. reach the level its players and fans deserve.,The potential blacklisting would prevent Ali Khan Tareen from participating in the re-bidding process for Multan Sultans after the current contract expires. Despite this threat, Tareen continues to challenge the PCB management’s decisions.Tareen took to social media platform X to post a video response. He addressed the lack of direct communication between PCB management and franchises.“Instead I was served a legal notice. If you were more competent, you would know these matters aren’t handled this way,” said Ali Khan Tareen.Click here to watch the full video of Ali Khan Tareen’s response to PCB’s legal noticeWhile acknowledging that his legal team found no basis for an apology, Tareen mentioned he would consider apologizing for the PSL’s benefit. He concluded his video by tearing up the legal notice and stating, “So, I hope you like my apology video.”
