Imagine being married to your wife for two decades, and getting to know that she had a crush on your best friend!Matt Damon recently dropped a funny bombshell about his marriage, and as it turns out, his wife, Luciana Barroso, once had a ‘huge’ crush on Ben Affleck, not him. Yep, before she ever met Matt, she thought Affleck was “the cute one.” Matt shared the story while he and Ben were doing a joint interview to promote their new crime thriller, ‘The Rip’.Here’s what happened.
Matt Damon’s confession about his wife’s crush on best friend Ben Affleck
On ‘The Howard Stern Show’, Damon, 55, laughed as he remembered Luciana’s reaction. Damon shared that early on in their relationship, she admitted that when she watched ‘Good Will Hunting’, which launched both Damon and Affleck to stardom, she thought Ben was “the cute one.”In Matt’s words, “After we’d been together for probably a few months, I think I met her best friend from high school, and it came out that the two of them went and saw Good Will Hunting together and her best friend thought I was the cute one and [Luciana] I thought Ben was the cute one.”Matt cracked up, telling, “She admitted to me. I’m like, ‘You got the wrong one?!’ She told me that 23 years ago.”Ben, 53, laughed too and said Luciana’s a great producer and a good friend, and that he never picked up on any lingering crush when they’ve worked together. “She’s a great producer and a really good friend,” he shared, before adding, “And I never got that vibe from her. So I think something I did in real life rubbed it off.”Matt carried on with his signature sass and joked, “Finally, she met him, and all that went away.”For the unversed, Matt and Luciana met back in 2003 while he was shooting ‘Stuck on You’ in Miami, where she was working. They got married in 2005 and now have four daughters. Two decades later, they’re still going strong.
Matt Damon and Ben Affleck: A friendship spanning decades
Matt and Ben have been friends and partners for nearly their entire lives. The duo met even before they were teenagers, grew up blocks apart from one another in Boston, and bonded over their shared desire to break into Hollywood. They started in Hollywood as a team and have had each other’s backs ever since. They co-wrote ‘Good Will Hunting’ and won an Oscar for it, and their bond is still rock solid. Ben has always called Matt the most loyal guy he knows, and Matt says Ben’s like a brother. You can see that real-life trust on screen, especially in their new movie, ‘The Rip’.
