The man who sparked global outrage on social media, after he grabbed Ariana Grande during the Singapore premiere of ‘Wicked: For Good’ is now being formally charged in court.
Wen charged with being ‘public nuisance’
According to the latest report on BBC News, the man, identified as Johnson Wen, a 26-year-old Australian, widely known by his Instagram handle Pajama Man, was charged on Friday with being a public nuisance. If convicted, Wen could face a fine of up to S$2,000 (approximately USD $1,540). According to the report, Wen intends to plead guilty to the charge.
Wen’s videos grabbing Ariana go viral
Wen went viral on Thursday, when videos showed him breaking through a barricade and running up to Grande and grabbing her. The actress was walking the yellow carpet with her co-stars when the incident occurred. This prompted co-star Cynthia Erivo to step in and push him away from Ariana, before the security team could step in.
Wen brags about ‘meeting Ariana’
Shortly after the incident with Grande, the man took to his handle to say that he was “free after being arrested.” He even went on to brag about ‘meeting Ariana Grande’.
History of disrupting events
Following Thursday’s events, fans of the singer were shocked to discover that Wen was the same man who pulled off similar stunts on other celebrities and frequently documented it on his handle. His past incidents reportedly include getting onstage at concerts by Katy Perry, The Weeknd, The Chainsmokers and even running on the cricket field and hugging Indian cricketer Viral Kohli. His behavior triggered significant backlash online, with Neitzens calling for his arrest and ban at several events and concerts.
‘Wicked: For Good’ release date
Grande, Erivo and the cast of Wicked: For Good are currently on the final leg of their global promotional tour that comes to an end next week, with the film’s release set for November 21.
