Gold prices surged to fresh lifetime highs on Tuesday, extending their rally as investors sought the safety of precious metals amid heightened geopolitical uncertainty and growing bets on interest rate cuts by the US Federal Reserve next year. The renewed buying momentum pushed both metals to record levels across domestic and global markets. On the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX), gold futures for February delivery jumped Rs 1,637, or 1.2%, to touch an all-time high of Rs 1,38,381 per 10 grams, registering gains for the second consecutive session. Internationally, the rally was equally strong.
