The 79th British Academy Film Awards (BAFTAs) turned into a proud occasion for India when the Manipuri-language movie ‘Boong’ bagged the award for Best Children’s & Family Film on February 22. The victory drew warm wishes from across the film fraternity, with actor Ayushmann Khurrana leading the applause as he shared an affectionate message for director Lakshmipriya Devi on social media.

Taking to Instagram stories, Ayushmann wrote, “Heartfelt congratulations to Lakshmipriya Devi and the entire cast and crew of Boong on this incredible BAFTA win. Always special to see authentic stories find global recognition.”

Backed by Excel Entertainment, Chalkboard Entertainment, and Suitable Pictures, ‘Boong’ created history as the first Indian film to win a BAFTA in this category. Surpassing strong international contenders such as ‘Zootropolis 2’, ‘Arco’, and ‘Lilo & Stitch’, the film’s victory marked a significant milestone for Indian regional cinema on the global stage.
PM Modi’s message for ‘Boong’
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also congratulated the team of the film for their big win. Sharing his message, he said, “Congratulations to all those associated with this film. This is indeed a moment of immense joy, especially for Manipur. It also highlights the immense creative talent in our nation.” He said Boong’s success is a proud moment not just for the filmmakers but also for Manipur and Indian cinema.
Boong’s emotional story
Set in Manipur, ‘Boong’ is a heartwarming story about love, hope, and family. It follows a young boy named Boong, played by Gugun Kipgen, who wishes to bring his family back together. Living with his single mother, Mandakini, played by Bala Hijam Ningthoujam, Boong goes on a journey with his best friend to find his missing father. The film shows the innocence of childhood and the deep bond between a mother and her child.
Ayushmann Khurrana gears up for his next release
Talking about Ayushmann, the actor is gearing up for his upcoming film ‘Pati Patni Aur Woh Do’, which also stars Sara Ali Khan, Wamiqa Gabbi, and Rakul Preet Singh. The movie was earlier scheduled for a Holi release, but reports now indicate a delay. As per Bollywood Hungama, the film will not arrive in theaters on March 4 as planned since post-production is still in progress and one song is yet to be filmed. The makers are reportedly taking their time to ensure the project is completed properly without rushing.
