Veteran actress Neena Gupta has made a candid admission about her marriage to chartered accountant Vivek Mehra, revealing that it was not driven by romance but by circumstance. In a recent conversation with Shubhankar Mishra, Neena was asked a simple yet loaded question — did she marry for love? Laughing lightly, she responded, “This is a very difficult question.“She then added, “I don’t understand love. I only understand the love I have for my child. I don’t understand anything else.”
“I need this very much.”
When further asked why she decided to marry Vivek Mehra, Neena replied with striking honesty. She said, “This is necessary, very much. If we have to live in society, we have to follow some rules of society, this is what I learn from my mistakes. Either you live on an island, or you live as you wish. What is there is not what I think, but what other people do not think. When I go somewhere, I get a strange look. So I couldn’t feel comfortable. If you get married, everything will be fine. It’s a very sad thing but it’s true.”Neena further stated that while she believes marriage is important, it does not mean one should marry just anyone. However, she admitted that staying single as a woman can be extremely difficult in society.
