The backlash began shortly after CEO Ilkka Paananen published a blog celebrating what he called a historic year for the mobile title. The post highlighted massive player growth and improved engagement. In the February 10 blog, Paananen pointed to internal changes as the key driver behind the surge. He wrote: “It actually started before last year. The team made changes to progression, simplified the game by removing extraneous systems, and added desirable new content, both in-game and out-of-game. “All of this makes the game more approachable and makes progression more possible for players. Itself, this doesn’t create anything immediate, but it creates the ability for returning players to have a much better time, IF they return,” Sasha (Aleksandar ‘Sasha’ Markovic, General Manager of Clash Royale) told me.“Jynxzi did not hold back during his stream. He said: “Definitely, it was just not me. It was me, Riley, Ken, Moe, I mean, so many creators that made the game better. Royale, I mean, the list goes on and on of how many people brought eyes to the game. So, it’s not just me. I don’t even give a fk that they didn’t put my name in here. I expected them to not put my name in here. I didn’t care either way because I’ve only st on the game for the past f**king two months, three months, since Heroes got implemented, which I’ll do a thousand times.“He later added: “Where I draw the line in the sand is when they tried to take credit for the game’s success. Read the lines, ‘It’s proof of what’s possible when a talented team relentlessly focuses on making things better for players.’ What?!
