    Richa Chadha reacted to the Kanpur tragedy where a newborn died after a short circuit caused a fire in an NICU. She questioned the hospital’s negligence on X, expressing sorrow over the loss. Officials sealed the unlicensed unit. Richa, now a mother, urged accountability and compassion in healthcare.

    On Sunday evening (February 8), a tragic incident took place in Kanpur when a newborn baby died after a fire broke out in the neonatal ICU of a nursing home. Police said the fire was likely caused by a short circuit.

    According to NDTV, the baby suffered severe burns while inside an incubator. The family blamed the hospital staff for negligence and claimed they tried to hide the incident after the fire. The news has caused shock and sadness across the country, prompting actress Richa Chadha to speak up and raise questions.In a post shared on She wrote, “A fetus grows from the size of a sesame seed into a full grown baby weighing close to 3 kgs over 9 painful, laborious, inconvenient months. t enters the world with immense pain.. both for the self and the mother. For this? Is this what you think you deserve? To live and die like this?”.

    Investigation and hospital action

    According to reports, a baby died after getting severe burns when a fire broke out in the NICU of Raja Nursing Home in Bithoor. The fire started because of a short circuit in a warmer machine. After the baby’s family complained, health officials checked the hospital and found that the ICU was running without a proper license, so they sealed it. The family also said the hospital staff did not tell them about the fire for several hours. Police said the baby’s body was sent for a post-mortem and promised action against those responsible.
