Thick fog triggers red alerts across UAE, motorists urged to take caution
Red fog alerts issued across UAE as visibility dropped, speed limits reduced morning commute hours/Representative Image

Dense fog blanketed parts of the UAE early Tuesday, disrupting the morning commute and prompting weather and transport authorities to issue urgent warnings as visibility dropped sharply across several regions.

Visibility warnings issued during morning hours

The National Center of Meteorology issued red and yellow alerts on Tuesday, February 10, warning that horizontal visibility had fallen significantly and could reduce further until 9am. The advisory covered several coastal and internal areas, where conditions were expected to fluctuate during the early hours. The fog coincided with peak travel time, raising safety concerns on major roads. Authorities cautioned that visibility could deteriorate suddenly, increasing the risk of accidents if drivers failed to adjust speed and following distance.

Traffic advisories and reduced speed limits

In Dubai, the Roads and Transport Authority urged motorists to follow fog-related safety guidelines while on the road. Digital signboards across the city displayed reminders as traffic volumes increased during the morning rush.In Abu Dhabi, residents received warning alerts directly on their mobile phones. The notifications informed drivers that speed limits had been reduced on several roads due to the thick fog, reinforcing the need for extra caution while driving.

Temperatures to remain mild across the country

Weather conditions are expected to stay humid at night and into the morning of Wednesday, February 11. Despite the fog, daytime temperatures will remain comfortable across most parts of the UAE.Abu Dhabi and Dubai are forecast to record highs of 29°C, with temperatures dipping to around 18°C. Sharjah will also see a high of 29°C, while overnight temperatures there may fall to 15°C.Across the wider country, temperatures are expected to drop to as low as 8°C in Jebel Jais, while the highest reading may reach 32°C in the Liwa region of Abu Dhabi.Light to moderate south-westerly winds, shifting to north-easterly, are expected to prevail. Wind speeds will range between 10 and 20 kmph, with gusts potentially reaching up to 30 kmph at times.Sea conditions will be moderate to slight in the Arabian Gulf and slight in the Oman Sea, according to the forecast.Authorities continue to advise residents to stay alert during early morning hours and to follow official updates as weather conditions evolve.
